This event brings together tech enthusiasts, engineers, and professionals from various fields to explore the intersection of engineering culture, open source, people and technology.
📅 Date June 10, 2026 - open doors at 18:00 (talks start ~1h later)
In a world where everyone around you is using agents 24/7, what's the point of even trying to get good at coding? And even if you try, there are so many levels of abstraction. How do you go down to the root?
This is a little story about why I still code by hand like a madman. (Often without an IDE, syntax highlighting, or even code completion.) What could I possibly gain from that?
I, too, am no stranger to LLMs, but I use them as tools. But ask yourself: what is the difference between you and another random person when asked to do the same job? The next generation of programmers will look dramatically different, but in this talk I want to encourage you to still learn how to program by yourself without any assistance.
Matthias Endler is a podcast host and Rust consultant, but most importantly a lover of hot chocolate. He has been maintaining open source projects for almost two decades and writes about engineering topics and microwave clocks on endler.dev.
